Mr. George R. Salem is an accomplished lawyer and advocate for Arab issues. He has run his own law practice, the Law Offices of George R. Salem, PLLC, since 2005. Mr. Salem is also deeply committed to Arab advocacy; in fact, he is a co-founder of the famous Arab-American Institute!

Mr. Salem’s track record in law is impressive. For over a decade, Mr. Salem served as the Solicitor of Labor at the U.S. Department of Labor. Mr. Salem headed a staff of 850 lawyers in 29 offices all around the country! From 1990-2004, he was a partner at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP, where he headed the firm's Middle East and USDOL practices. In addition, Mr. Salem served as a member of the board of directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and as chairman of the Tripartite Advisory Panel on International Labor Standards, which is the legal arm of the President's Committee on the International Labor Organization. Mr. Salem was named by The National Law Journal as one of the top 26 labor lawyers in the United States!

In addition to his career in law, Mr. Salem has a history of advocating for Arab-American interests. He is the former president of the National Association of Arab-Americans and has served on the board of directors of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. In 2003, he was personally named to Congress’ Advisory Group on Public Diplomacy in the Arab and Muslim World, which was assembled at the request of Congress to study the State Department’s public diplomacy efforts within said regions.

Currently, in addition to running his own law practice, Mr. Salem serves as a Strategic Advisor with DLA Piper, where he focuses on assisting in development of DLA Piper's Middle East and US Department of Labor practices. He also serves as the chairman of the Arab-American Institute and as the treasurer of the United Palestinian Appeal. Mr. Salem’s track record is truly impressive, and we are proud to have him serving on ABPA’s advisory board!
